Here’s a picture I put in the Urban Painting Show at the Palette and Chisel that’s going on this weekend. It’s 11×14 inches and was painted in the studio from a small sketch I did late last fall outdoors on the platform of the Metra South Station. I used my camera phone to capture the guy walking along. The station is near the financial district on La Salle.

The real subject of the painting is the cool/warm contrast of the reds in the stripes on the train.
It was cold and windy on the platform. A Metra guy asked me if I wouldn’t rather come inside the small waiting room, where it was warm, but I declined, showing how tough we plein air painters are! I’m sure he was impressed. They have these great hot air dryers for your hands there, that actually work. It’s like sticking your hands in a jet engine, but they’re fast.
