This is a commission I did for a friend whose daughter lives in Chicago near Wrigley Field. I took pictures of the house on the first nice day last April, before everything had grown out. I would have done an oil sketch on the spot, but this was a surprise Christmas gift and I heard dogs barking in the yard and concluded the owner was home and might see me. I took more pictures in the summer for better light, but by then the house was completely overgrown with the famous ivy that covers the outfield walls of Wrigley Field, so the April pictures came in handy for the details of the house. I moved the tree on the left closer to the house so that it would better obscure the house next door. I based the whole picture on the pillar in front of the door, and now I see the tree echoes the pillar. The picture was fun to do because of the classical lines of the house.
