New Still Life, Part II

New Still Life, State 2

I had a great class last night. As often happens, last week was terrible–I painted the background on the left of the picture a color that was too close to the color used in the bottle and therefore too warm, making the background not recede enough. Then I painted it over with a cooler color, but it was a blue I can only describe as “icky.” So I had a feeling things would go better this week, and they did. I had a great time painting the bottle and while doing that, I came up with (or rather my teacher Michael helped me come up with) a better color for the background. Also while focusing on the bottle, I managed to get started on putting in the flowers and greenery surrounding the bottle. Here’s a close up of the bottle and a picture of my palette at the end of class.

I put the palette picture in to show something of how much fun painting is when you get going. There’s a point where one part of my mind is saying, “I have no idea how to do this,” while another part is just going ahead mixing colors and brushing them in.
