Last Tuesday I started a new still life. Having no ideas, and since Michael had offered to provide set-up items, I took him up on his offer. Here’s the result. Just a little more complicated than I would have had the courage for, but I’m glad he has that much confidence in me. I had a great time getting started with the underpainting of shadows and highlights. We’re now painting under natural light as we have enough daylight now between 3 and 6 pm. Here are photos of the set-up, one taken at 3 and one at 6 that show how much the light changes even though it’s indirect north light (taken with a camera phone). And finally, here’s a photo of my start on the painting, bigger this time, 16 x 20 inches; once again on double-oil-primed Belgian canvas, which I love painting on–like painting on air.
