The Norwegian-American Center here in Madison asked me to help them make a new version of a book of woodcuts by a local artist, Olive Jensen Nordby. For most of the book I just recreated the existing layout as digital files that could be sent to an offset printer. But for the dust jacket they let me create a new design. I took the flower patterns from the lower left part of the woodcut and using photoshop made a texture file to use for the green background. This is the flat layout before folding with, from left to right, back flap, back cover, spine, front cover, and front flap. Last night at a dinner to honor her, she said she had been making art for 95 years–since she was three years old!
