Gouache in Chicago

I'm finally back in Chicago on Fridays: 1, 5, 10, and 15 minute sketches in charcoal, and 30 minutes in pencil and gouache. This painting was done in my 5 x 8 inch Moleskine sketchbook, so the lighting is different above and below the fold. I'm looking for larger paper that takes the paint (or actually doesn't take the paint–it more lays on the surface), but having a hard time. I like the areas on the left in the background where the paint has beaded up and dried rather than soaking in. And I can get very flat, rich color areas like the green on the left of her front leg and the blue in her hair. Working on getting the gesture of the pose, and then the shadow structure.
